A MESSAGE from Founder/Executive Director, CYNTHIA BRIAN

The world feels as if ir is spiraling into darkness. Our hearts are heavy with the death and destruction in Ukraine, Israel and the Gaza strip. It’s challenging to wake up every morning and go about our normal business knowing that people are suffering in other parts of the world. Chaos reigns and upheaval is unsettling.

What drives us to be better individuals is purpose. What is your purpose? What is your passion? Whatever you discover, it is imperative that your approach involve caring for and helping those in need.

I’ve been smiling my entire life and do believe that smiling at strangers could be a lifesaver. We never know what effect our actions or inactions may have on another individual.

This is a short newsletter because important events are unfolding globally and we must pay attention. Get involved. Do your utmost to stop the horror. Hope for peace but help peace happen by being purposeful, loving, caring, and forgiving.

Keep smiling. A single smile may make a difference. We grieve with each individual everywhere who has been affected by these global calamities, both created by mankind and nature.

In love and peace,

Cynthia Brian

HOPE

by Karen Kitchel

One of the best phrases I’ve learned from hanging out with kindergarteners is “Oh well, maybe next time.” Recently parents were invited to join students for the first hour of their school day. As I said Good Morning to one little boy sitting alone, he replied “My Mom has to work today — oh well, maybe next time.”

Those words give us hope for tomorrow. Doesn’t matter if it’s about losing a sporting event, finding your favorite restaurant closed, or what happens to us nearly every day.

The definition of hope is “A desire for a certain thing to happen.” Whatever you face today, choose hope for tomorrow.

Karen Kitchel is the Kindness Coordinator volunteer with BTSYA. She purchased the book, No Barnyard Bullies, as a gift for every kindergarten student where she is a volunteer teacher. www.scatteringkindness.com

PEAR FESTIVAL FUN

The Be the Star You Are!® booth at the Pear and Wine Festival was a huge success. We give our thanks to our sponsors, MBJessee Painting (www.MBJessee.com) and Lamorinda Weekly Newspaper (www.LamorindaWeekly.com) Volunteers included several of our teen radio reporters who were able to meet in person for the first time. We gave away free books, potpourri, and seeds of herbs and flowers. Cynthia Brian autographed copies of her two new children’s books, No Barnyard Bullies and Family Forever as well as her inspirational Be the Star You Are!® 99 Gifts for Living, Loving, Laughing, and Learning to Make a Difference book. Music, games, food, crafts, art, drinks, and of course, pears, made this a very fun, family festival.
